Wireless internet, mobile broadband, information about how to set up your wireless computer to access the internet, using wireless USB or an adaptor for a wireless computer that has wireless internet capability. Wireless computer internet or Wifi is when your computer links to a wireless broadband router.
For this to be wireless computer internet, your computer trnsmitts to the router, and the wireless router communicates to the provider, through your modem which connects physically to your phoneline. You can of course have modem routers, where the function of a router and a modem is combined. Wireless internet connections gets rid of the need for an Ethernet or other cable from your router to the computer. Most broadband providers will give you a free or cheap wireless router when you sign up them. This is a great way of adding a lot of freedom to how you use your computer at home, and you can have more than one person using the internet at the same time, in different rooms. Remember you have to give back, or buy the wireless router if you cancel your broadband service. Mobile broadband is where you by a service, which you use a bit like a mobile phone serivce, topping it up when you run out of credit.
For mobile broadband the actual equipment you need is a USB stick you put into your computer’s USB port. You are given a number by the provider, which you use to link to a mobile broadband service rather than a mobile phone service. You can use the mobile broadband wherever you like, as long as you can get reception from the mobile broadband company. Download times can be slower, and you are dependent on the reception. However, great if you have a laptop and are on the move a lot, or do not have a landline. You can top the service up at any time, just like topping up a mobile phone.
