Wireless printers, best buy wireless printers, online wireless printers and wireless printer tips to help you with your wireless computer network. Everyone seems to want to move to wireless printers, as storage for such large pieces of equipment becomes more problematic. We want to locate the wireless printer on a shelf, or perhaps in a different room completely.
If you go into a high street store, you will find that the number of Multifunctional Devices (MFDs), outnumber the straightforward printer. These rather boxy looking objects have a printer, scanner, sometimes a fax, and you can use some of these without even linking to your computer. For instance, take out your SD card from your digital camera, stick it straight into the MDF, and the printer can print straight from it. No need for cables to your computer, or even setting up a wireless printer. However, most people want to change the pictures, and of course print from the computer, so a wireless printer does make sense. They can be bought for around £30 upwards. Beware to buying too cheaply! Consider the cost of printer inks. Sometimes the cheapest wireless printers have very expensive ink cartridges, these can cost as much as the printer themselves, and if you use the printer for lots of colour printing you'll find the ink will need replacing a lot.
Wireless printers connect to your router. The router then connects to the computer, whether this is a wireless computer or not. The wireless printer will have the wireless receiver / transmitter built into the printer itself.
Another option is to convert your existing printer into a wireless one. Is this possible? Well it is, but probably not for a novice computer user. You will need to connect the printer into a printer server, a small device which looks like a router, and this is connected by ethernet connection to your router.
If your router is wireless, then of course you can set up your computer away from the printer. Watch this space for more on this, as this is the next step in my own home wireless network. I'll let you know if it works.
